Design + Disability = Beyond freedom
’Design meets disability’ kommer att visa upp den första möbelkollektionen från designstudion Lilla Elefant Group. Samlingen består av ett antal experimentella verk som syftar till att utmana normen och introducera nya möjligheter för möblerna. Marknaden idag ser inte behoven hos människor med olika kroppar och bristen på valmöjlighet skapar en ojämlikhet och tar bort friheten att välja livsstil. Detta projekt vidgar människors syn på livskvaliteten ’Beyond freedom’.
Även om design historiskt har gett människor en hög livskvalitet, gick fördelarna tyvärr inte till alla. De flesta möbler är utformade för icke-funktionshindrade kroppar. När det gäller hemmöbler för funktionshindrade finns det medicinskt funktionella produkter tillgängliga på marknaden.
Lilla Elefant ifrågasatte fenomenet och undersökte grundligt vilka hinder som finns för personer med funktionsnedsättning för att göra deras vardag lite enklare och vackrare. Fyra delar av heminredningskollektionerna kommer att visas i utställningen. Matbordet, tebordet, garderoben och skåpet är noggrant utformade för att möta en korrekt sittposition och beräknad efter användarnas rörelser. Att designa möbler för en annan kropp handlar inte bara om att rikta sig till vår lilla nischmarknad i den stora möbelindustrin utan också om att utmana uppfattningen om normen.
Alla produkter är gjorda av trämaterial som används i traditionell hantverksproduktion eftersom vi strävar efter att bygga en serie miljövänliga produkter med lång livslängd.

Lilla Elefant Group – Peder X Yesol
Peder Karlsson är en hantverkare specialiserad i möbelsnickeri med bas i Lund. Yesol Kim är industridesigner från Sydkorea med bas i Malmö. Samarbetet sammanför två nationaliteter, Sverige och Sydkorea, två yrken, hantverk och industridesign samt två kroppar, icke-funktionshindrad och funktionshindrad.

ENGLISH Design + Disability = Beyond freedom
Design meets disability will showcase the first furniture collection of Lilla elefant design group. The collection is various experimental works aiming to challenge the perception of the norm and introduce new possibilities of the furniture. On the market today, the needs of people with different bodies have been silenced and the lack of choices of furniture for different bodies caused inequality of freedom to choose lifestyles. This project broadens people’s views about the quality of life beyond freedom.
Although historically the design has brought a high quality of life to humans, the benefits did not go to everyone, unfortunately. Most of the furniture is designed for non-disabled bodies. When it comes to home furniture for the disabled, there are medically functional products available on the market.
Lilla Elefant Group questioned the phenomena and looked deep into the obstacles of people with disabilities to make their daily lives easier and more beautiful. Four pieces of home furnishing collections will be shown to the audience in Malmö. The dining table, tea table, wardrobe, cabinet are carefully designed and tailored to the height of the sitting people and considered the movements of the users. Designing furniture for a different body is that not only we can target our niche market in the major furniture industry, but also challenge the perception of the norm.
All the products are made of wood materials used by traditional handcraft production since we pursue to build a series of design environmentally friendly and long life span products.

Lilla Elefant Group – Peder X Yesol
Peder Karlsson is a carpenter specialized in fine furniture based in Lund, Sweden. Yesol Kim is a South Korean industrial designer based in Malmo, Sweden. The collaboration means that two nationalities: Sweden and South Korea, Craftsmanship and Industrial design, non-disabled and disabled bodies.
